OUR DAYS IN SAROSPATAK
27/08/2013
The Dutch group started their journey on Tuesday. After taking a flight from Rotterdam to Budapest, a real adventure began: a three-hour train ride towards the destination, Sárospatak.
During the journey on the train, they managed to learn a new sentence, „I do not speak Hungarian’ in Hungarian, of course. This is “Nem beszèlek mag yarul”. Then suddenly the train stopped and it turned out that the engine had broken down. Luckily, they arrived in Sarospatak as it was planned. Arriving in Sárospatak they were welcomed by the English teacher and two students, which was very nice.
When they got to the hostel and installed themselves in their rooms, they went to sleep.

On Wednesday a group from Poland and Germany set off to Sarospatak. The journey both from Poland and Germany took a lot of time, but it was time to get to know better and to learn the pronounciation of the name Sátoraljaújhely
Meanwhile, the Dutch visited school and had some fun in the town.

After breakfast we were welcomed by the mayor of Sarospatak. It was a great chance to find out something about the town, its history and tourist attractions.
Then, we took part in a quiz around the town centre and went sightseeing in the castle and admire the spectacular view of the town and its surroundings.
Next, we went to the Bodrog river bank where we started our examinations.
In the evening we were welcomed by the headmaster who showed us around the school.
Then we had a chance to get to know one another better during the games prepared by the Hungarian teachers and try to test our architectural skills

And we set off to reach the tarn of the Megyer mountain. We hiked along the vineyards, admiring the views.
When we reached our destination we started gathering material and have some rest.
On our way to Hercegut we took some really interesting pictures of different species of fauna and flora.
In Hercegut we visited a cellar and had a chance to learn about the Tokaj region and even try the wine.
At the end of the day everybody could do some sports in the school gym and even try some boxing.

The day started early in the morning at the restaurant. After a short breakfast we grabbed a bag containing our lunch and went to the beach we headed for the river bank. There were canoes waiting for us. We paddled for 3,5 hours and we finally reached Felsoberecki where we continued our research and had some time off.
After coming back we took part in some workshops in the school and started doing the project work.

Just after the breakfast we met a biology and chemistry teacher who was our guide to Berek – the Bodrog backwater.
On the way there he told us some interesting facts about the town and the river. We managed to collect the material and do some further research.
The afternoon was the best part of the day, because we relaxed in Vegardo’s open air pool and spa and it didn’t matter that it was raining.

This day was a great opportunity to see a school-year opening ceremony in the Hungarian school.
Afterwards, we had to present our homework presentations on the history of our towns and of course on the plants which grow in our area.
All the presentations were really interesting as we learned a lot
Unfortunately, our afternoon plans changed due to the weather conditions but still the time we had was great. We spent it on the project work but also on preparing for the school birthday party as the school celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The morning and afternoon were quite busy. Most of us spent this time on preparing the material for the Student Conference which was planned for the late afternoon. At 5 pm. the guests arrived and the conference began. Each group presented their results and everyone could admire the exhibition of the best moments of the project. This great work was greeted with great applause and the interest from the press. Such a hard day had to finish well.
After dinner on the grill terrace, we returned to school to learn Hungarian dance steps and moves.
Finally, we took some farewell pictures and went back to the hostel .
